Gibbs Career-High Leads Men's Basketball Past Delaware Valley, 70-61

Doylestown, PA (Januay 11, 2023) - Sophomore Caleb Gibbs recorded his first career double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past Delaware Valley University, 70-61, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • The win avenges a late season loss to the Aggies last season and improves the Bulldogs to 50-23 all-time vs. Del. Val.
  • DeSales stays unbeaten in the MAC Freedom and now owns a one-game lead over Stevens who lost at Arcadia tonight.
How it Happened
  • DeSales got off a to huge start in this one scoring the first 11 points of the game over the first 3:28.
  • The lead remained 11 at the nine minute mark after a three from junior Mason Barnes and went as high as 12 points before a three at the buzzer cut the margin down to nine points (32-23) at the break.
  • The Aggies got within four early in the second-half and again with 6:39 to go on a four-point play (49-45).
  • Leading by just three (61-58) with 5:43 to go, the Bulldogs used an 8-0 run led by five points from sophomore Devin Atkinson to push the lead back to 11 points and ice the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Gibbs was 6-for-7 from the field and added two blocks.
  • Junior Mason Barnes tied his career-high with 18 points.
  • Junior Ryan Boylan had 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.
  • Atkinson came off the bench to score 10 points and added four rebounds and four assists.
  • Junior Elijah Eberly had a game-high five assists.
For the Foes
  • Justin Savage led the Aggies with 14 points.
  • Casey Caruso had 11 points and Ewens Lizima finished with 10 off the bench for the Aggies.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot 55 percent from the field and was terrific from the line hitting 19-for-22 (86.4 percent).
  • The Aggies shot 40 percent from the field.
