Bench Leads Way for Men's Hoops in Fifth Straight Win

Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 26, 2023) - The DeSales University bench combined to score 43 of DSU's 79 points leading the DeSales University men's basketball team to its fifth straight win, 79-59 at King's College on Thursday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 79, King's - 59
  • Records: DeSales (16-3, 10-0 MAC Freedom); King's (6-12, 1-9 MAC Freedom)
  • It is the 15th straight win for the Bulldogs over the Monarchs and improves DSU to 45-24 all-time vs. King's.
  • The Bulldogs stay undefeated in the MAC Freedom improve on the best start to the MAC Freedom season (10-0) since 8-0 starts in 2012-13 and 2021-22.
How it Happened
  • This one started ugly as King's scored the first 10 points of the game to lead 10-0 just under three minutes into the game.
  • The bench entered the game at the 16:49 mark with DeSales trailing 10-1 and immediately turned it around with a 12-2 run giving DSU a 13-12 lead at the 13:16 mark of the opening half.
  • Senior Darnell Vaughan Jr. led the spurt with five of the 12 points.
  • From there DeSales dominated finishing the last 12 minutes of the half out-scoring King's, 21-4, to take a 36-22 lead into the locker room.
  • King's got to within nine points once early in the second-half before a quick 9-2 run once again led by the bench pushed the lead up to 16 points (45-29) and the Bulldogs never looked back from there.

  • KIng's was led by Garrett Burys with 12 points and Chris Patton had 11 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales didn't shoot it well but took 21 more shots than the Monarchs thanks to 24 offensive rebounds.
  • DSU was outstanding from the line hitting 12-for-15 (80.0%).
  • The Bulldogs out-rebounded King's, 54-28, for the game.
  • The DeSales bench out-scored King's, 43-18.
