Men's Basketball Bench Dominates in 66-63 Win at Lycoming

Williamsport, PA (January 4, 2023) - The DeSales University men's basketball bench scored 47 of the Bulldogs 66 points in a 66-63 win at Lycoming College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 66, Lycoming - 63
  • Records: DeSales (11-2, 5-0 MAC Freedom); Lycoming College (7-6, 2-2 MAC Freedom)
  • The win is DeSales' ninth straight on the season as the Bulldogs are receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
  • DSU is now 18-16 all-time vs. the Warriors improving to 7-9 all-time at Lamade Gymnasium.
How it Happened
  • Trailing 10-2 early the bench led a 25-8 run that included two 3's from junior Christian Guldin, sophomore Devin Atkinson, and first-year Nate Ellis each giving DSU a 27-18 lead with 8:51 left in the opening half.
  • That lead grew to 12 points (39-27) at the halftime break.
  • It was back-and-forth for the first 15 minutes of the second as the Bulldogs continued to lead by nine points with 5:17 left after a bucket from junior Ryan Boylan.
  • Lycoming hit back-to-back 3's to pull within three points but both teams struggled to score over the next 2:34 with the Warriors hitting just free throws during that stretch to get within one point (64-63) with 1:51 left.
  • Junior Elijah Eberly scored his only bucket of the game on the next possession putting DSU ahead, 66-63, and the Bulldogs got a defensive stop and thwarted a desperation 3 at the buzzer to record the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Atkinson led the bench and all scorers with 14 points, hitting 4 3's.
  • Ellis added 13 points and handed out five assists.
  • Guldin finished with 12 points off the pine.
For the Foes
  • Lycoming got 54 of its 63 points from the starting lineup including 13 points from Steven Hamilton.
  • Dyson Harward had 12 points, while Mo Terry and DeAundre Manuel each added 10 tallies.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs hit 43.1 percent from the field but were outstanding from outside the arc canning 9-of-18 (50%).
  • Lycoming shot just 39.7 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from the free throw line.
