Late Goal Spoiled in Women's Soccer 2-1 Loss at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ (October 14, 2023) - The DeSales University women's soccer team tied the game late but was unable to hold the tie falling at Stevens, 2-1, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Stevens - 2, DeSales - 1
  • Records: DeSales (2-11-1, 1-2 MAC Freedom); Stevens (4-6-2, 2-1 MAC Freedom)
  • This is DSU's fifth straight loss to the Ducks falling to 2-6 all-time vs. Stevens. 
How it Happened
  • The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute and held that lead into the half.
  • It remained a one goal game late into the 86th minute when DeSales got the tying goal as senior Tess Rodgers sent a free kick into the box where junior Emma Ribeiro volleyed a pass to sophomore Madison O'Connor who scored into the open net.
  • The tie game was short lived however as Stevens found the game-winner just 1:44 later when Rachel Rouse scored on the rebound of a saved shot.

  • The goal was O'Connor's first of the season.
  • Ribeiro and Rodgers earned assists on the play.
  • Senior Jozlyn Minnema made four saves in goal.

  • Angela Dinh and Rouse scored SIT's goals.
  • Elsa Bley had an assist.

  • Stevens held a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
