Women's Soccer Clinches Postseason Berth after 2-0 Win at King's

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 28, 2023) - Junior Emma Ribeiro scored twice in the second-half leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past King's College, 2-0, clinching a spot in next week's MAC Freedom postseason tournament on Saturday afternoon.

  • Records: DeSales (5-12-1, 4-3 MAC Freedom); King's (6-9-2, 2-4-1 MAC Freedom)
  • DSU finishes as the #4 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament and will travel to top seeded Misericordia University on Tuesday with game time set for 7:00 pm.
  • This is the 12th time and the ninth straight season DeSales has qualified for the postseason tournament.
  • This was DeSales' fifth straight win over King's improving 24-4 vs. the Monarchs all-time. 
How it Happened
  • After a scoreless tie in the first-half, DSU got on the board in the 64th minute when senior Elizabeth McCarthy found Ribeiro in front of the net for an easy goal into an open net after a terrific centering pass from McCarthy.
  • That duo hooked up again in the 88th minute providing an insurance goal and the eventual final tally.

  • Ribeiro now has a team-best eight goals on the season.
  • McCarthy tallies her second and third assists of the year.
  • Senior Jozlyn Minnema had three saves to record the shutout.

  • Aspen Wallin made six saves the Monarchs.
