Maddie Trocki scored two goals, including the game-winner, leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Lebanon Valley College, 4-3, in two overtimes in the MAC Freedom opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics

- Records: DeSales (3-7, 1-0 MAC Freedom), Lebanon Valley (7-5, 0-1 MAC Freedom)
- This was the first match-up between LVC and DSU since 2010 and it is the first-ever win for the Bulldogs over Lebanon Valley after the Flying Dutchmen won the first seven meetings.
- The Bulldogs have now won 12 straight games in MAC Freedom play dating back to the end of the 2021 season.
How it Happened
- DeSales never trailed in this one as they took a 2-0 lead after a penalty stroke goal from Trocki 2:22 into the game and another goal from senior Catie McGrath just 5:18 before halftime.
- LVC got one back 2:01 before the half to make it a 2-1 game at the half.
- Sophomore Nikki Chiaradia scored in the third quarter to regain the two-goal advantage.
- The Flying Dutchmen needed just 1:42 to cut the margin back down to one goal keeping it a 3-2 game after three quarters of play.
- The lead was still one with just under five minutes left to play when LVC found the tying goal on a penalty stroke.
- Both teams had good chances to score in first OT, including LVC who had a two-player advantage after two cards were issued to the Bulldogs but couldn't capitalize.
- With just under five minutes left, Trocki took possession on the left sideline, beat an LVC defender, creating a 1-v-1 with the keeper, scoring to win the game.
Top Bulldog Performers
- Trocki now has 10 goals on the season, while McGrath scored her second of the year and Chiaradia her first.
- Junior Delani Remp had an assist on McGrath's goal.
- Senior Kayla Yeatman made five saves in goal and senior Miranda Szymborski had one defensive save, saving a goal in the first-half.
- Trocki moves into a tie for fifth place all-time with 33 career goals.
For the Foes
- LVC got goals from Claire Wiedenhammer, Rebecca Lane, and Sorrell Long to pace the Flying Dutchmen.
- Long and Gracie Johnson also had assists.
Inside the Box Score
- Shots were about even with DSU holding a slim 16-15 edge and an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.
- LVC had a 9-7 lead in penalty corners.
