#8/9 DeSales Sweeps Season Series with Misericordia after 67-51 Road Win

Dallas, PA (February 4, 2023) - The #8/9th ranked DeSales University women's basketball team kept pace in the race for the top seed in the MAC Freedom, sweeping the season series with Misericordia University after a 67-51 road win on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Records: #8/9 DeSales (20-1, 12-1 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (15-6, 8-4 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs sweep the season series with the Cougars winning their 11th straight in the series and improving to 42-12 all-time vs. Misericordia.
  • DeSales has now won 20+ games in a season for the 25th time in team history and the 18th time under head coach Fred Richter.
  • DSU is now a 1/2 game ahead of Stevens for the top seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament after the Ducks had a BYE this Saturday.
How it Happened
  • After scoring the first four points of the game, DSU used a 13-4 run over the last 6:18 of the first quarter to take a 21-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.
  • The lead grew to as many as 15 points twice in the second quarter before the Bulldogs took a 33-20 advantage into the halftime locker room.
  • DeSales pulled away in the third quarter out-scoring the Cougars, 21-14, and building a lead as high as 23 points and cruised home in the fourth quarter despite a strong offensive quarter from Misericordia over the final 10 minutes.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Megan Bealer had a game-high 21 points, adding six rebounds and five steals.
  • Junior Mikaela Reese posted her second straight double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
  • Junior Lindsey Welsh finished with 12 points and junior Abigail Rafferty added eight tallies and eight rebounds in the win.
For the Foes
  • Skylar Dowling had a good shooting day off the bench hitting 3 3's and was the lone double digit scorer with 13 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot 41.4 percent from the field and held MU to just 31.9 percent shooting.
  • DSU had a decisive 40-10 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-6 edge in fast break points.
  • The Bulldogs controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Cougars, 40-29.
  • MU's bench out-scored DeSales', 23-8.
