Big Second-Half Leads Men's Basketball Past Delaware Valley, 63-51

Center Valley, PA (February 8, 2023) - The DeSales University men's basketball team shot 52.2 percent in the second-half, outscoring Delaware Valley by 13 points in the second-half en route to a 63-51 win in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

  • DeSales sweeps the season series with the Aggies and improve to 51-23 all-time in the series.
  • DSU has clinched the MAC Freedom regular season championship with the win sitting atop the MAC Freedom standings with a 13-1 record and just two games left in the regular season.
  • The Bulldogs were included in the first installment of the NCAA Division III Region IV Regional Rankings announced on Tuesday listed alphabetically. The first actual ranking will be next week.
How it Happened
  • Trailing 16-13 early, the Bulldogs scored 11 straight points, including back-to-back three-pointers from junior Christian Guldin to take a 24-16 lead at the 6:04 mark of the first-half.
  • From there DSU went ice cold scoring just four points over the final six minutes as the Aggies chipped away and took a one-point lead (29-28) into the halftime locker room.
  • It was a tie game at 37 four minutes into the second-half when DeSales scored eight of the next nine points and led the rest of the way with the lead peaking 11 points a few times before the final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Guldin and fellow junior Elijah Eberly led four players in double digits with 12 points.
  • First-year Nate Ellis had 11 points off the bench.
  • Junior Ryan Boylan was also in double digits with 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Junior Mason Barnes equaled Boylan's seven boards and had five assists in the win.
For the Foes
  • Justin Savage had 16 points to lead all scorers.
  • Jordan Gombs finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs shot 45.1 percent from the field for the game and held the Aggies to just 34.4 percent shooting.
  • DeSales' bench out-scored Delaware Valley's pine squad, 33-13.
  • DSU had a 41-30 edge on the boards.
