Women's Lacrosse Hands Maritime First Loss of Season, 15-14

Center Valley, PA (March 17, 2023) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team out-scored Maritime College, 8-5, in the second-half to hand the Privateers their first loss of the season, 15-14, in non-conference action on Friday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 15, Maritime - 14
  • Records: DeSales (3-4 overall); Maritime (3-1 overall)
  • DSU evens the series avenging a 17-7 loss last season to the Privateers.
How it Happened
  • This game was back-and-forth the entire way as neither team led by more than three goals at anytime.
  • DSU held a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play before Maritime controlled the second quarter out-scoring DeSales, 6-3, including three straight goals to end the half and take a 9-7 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • After trading goals to start the third quarter the Bulldogs scored four straight to take a 12-10.
  • The Privateers got within one to end the third quarter and scored first in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 12.
  • Senior Marina Bradley gave DSU the lead for good just eight seconds later starting a string of three straight goals giving DSU a 15-12 lead and the Bulldogs held on from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Bradley finished with a team-high two goals and five assists for seven points.
  • Seniors Dani Towey and Amanda Schultz each had three goals and junior Hayley Petrosini had three goals and one assist.
  • Sophomore Meagan Landers added two goals, first-year Christina DiGuglielmo had a goal and an assist, and first-year Hailey Linebaugh had a goal and two assists.
  • Petrosini added six draw controls.
  • Sophomore Michaela Regan made nine saves, including a couple of big ones late to preserve the win.
For the Foes
  • Nicole Johnson had five goals and one assist, along with six draw controls.
  • Allison Jillson Neuwirth added two goals and three assists.
Inside the Box Score
  • Maritime out-shot DeSales, 31-26, and had a 13-9 advantage in ground balls.
  • The Privateers had a slim 17-16 edge in draw controls.
