Center Valley, PA (March 18, 2023) - The DeSales University softball team continued its hot hitting and strong play sweeping a MAC Freedom doubleheader with Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon.
Game One (W/6-0)
SophomoreÂ
Rachel Lowry tossed a five-hit shutout allowing just five hits and striking out eight to improve to 5-0 on the season in game one.
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from sophomoreÂ
Tori Kenney and added three more runs in the third that included an RBI double from first-yearÂ
Ava Goodman.
The Bulldogs added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
SeniorÂ
Nicole Secara had two hits and scored twice, Kenney had two RBIs, seniorÂ
Kylie Bryant finished 3-for-3, and Goodman had two hits in the game one win.
Game Two (W/14-9)
Game two was a slugfest as the two teams combined for 23 runs and 20 hits.
After Delaware Valley took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, DeSales exploded for four runs in the first, two in the second, and six in the third to take a 12-4 lead.
Bryant had a three-run home run in the first inning, Kenney had a two-RBI single in the second, and the Bulldogs took advantage of a few Aggie errors in the third scoring four unearned runs among the six.
DVU got three runs. back in the fourth but the Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run from seniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro and never looked back from there.
JuniorÂ
Alanna Hartzell earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief allowing just one run. Lowry picked up a save tossing the final 3 2/3 innings allowing just two runs and striking out five.
The Bulldogs doubleheader at Montclair State has been postponed with a make-up date to be determined.
