Mrytle Beach, SC (March 5, 2023) - First-year
Riley Long tossed a no-hitter leading the DeSales University softball team to two wins on day one of its spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday afternoon.
Game One (W/8-4 vs. Blackburn College)
DSU scored runs in all but one inning en route to the 8-4 win. The Bulldogs had a 4-01 lead thru four innings after scoring once in the first, once in the second, and twice in the third innings.
The lead grew to 6-1 after playing two more in the top of the fifth inning before Blackburn scored three times in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead down to two runs (6-4). The Bulldogs added insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings and junior
Madazyn Vernier pitched two scoreless frames to close it out.
Sophomore
Rachel Lowry earned the win going four strong allowing three earned and striking out four. Vernier earned the save with two scoreless striking out one.
Senior
Nicole Secara went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Senior
Kylie Bryant went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while first-year
Camryn Coates and sophomore
Abigail Rodriguez each had two hits.
Game Two (W/16-0 vs. PSU-Hazleton)
Long had a very memorable college debut allowing just two baserunners but zero hits over five innings to earn her first career win. She struck out seven, hit a batter, and walked a batter.
DeSales scored seven times in the first and fourth innings with solo runs in the second and fifth.
First-year
Ava Goodman finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, junior
Alexys Vernier was 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and first-year
Amy Wood had four RBIs in the game two win.
DSU is back to action tomorrow taking on Medaille and Norwich.
