Fourth Quarter Rally Leads Men's Lacrosse to 14-13 Win at Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, VA (March 8, 2023) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored three of the last four goals in the game to earn a come from behind 14-13 win at the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Final Score: DeSales - 14, Mary Washington - 13
  • Records: DeSales (1-5 Overall); Mary Washington (3-3 Overall)
  • Today's game was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
How it Happened
  • DeSales was in control of this one early taking a 6-2 lead after scoring the first two goals of the second quarter.
  • UMW scored five straight goals from there to take a 7-6 lead before the Bulldogs scored two goals over the final 28 seconds of the second quarter to take an 8-7 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • The game was tied at 10 after three quarters before DSU took an 11-10 lead with the first goal of the final quarter but the Eagles answered with two straight to take a 12-11 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.
  • Junior Colin Adams tied the game at 12 and first-year Mark Winkler Jr. scored two straight to give the Bulldogs a 14-12 lead with 8:22 to go.
  • Mary Washington got within a goal with 4:24 left and the DeSales defense did the rest holding UMW scoreless over the final 4:24 to earn its first win of the season.

  • Adams and junior TJ Herron each had two goals and two assists.
  • Senior Dominic Maria and Winkler Jr. both had three goals.
  • Senior Beau Neff added four assists
  • First- year Angelo Luzzetti, first-year Jake Hurd, first-year Josh Morris, and sophomore Anthony Gash also each scored.
  • Junior Quinten Lyons continued his outstanding play in goal making 17 saves.
For the Foes
  • J.D. Nozemack had six goals and one assist to lead the Eagles.
  • Jacob Fowler won 21-of-30 face-offs and had 14 ground balls.
