Softball Trades Late Inning Comebacks with Neumann in DH Split

Center Valley, PA (April 11, 2023) - The DeSales University softball team traded late inning comebacks splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Neumann University by scores of 5-4 and 3-2 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

Game One (W/5-4 - 8 innings)
After both teams traded runs in the fourth inning, Neumann took a 2-1 lead in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.

DSU got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth to pull within a run (4-3) on an RBI single from sophomore Bella Arrigo and RBI groundout from sophomore Abigail Rodriguez. Senior Chloe Pauls then sent the game into extra innings with a single to third base tying the score at four.

After the Bulldogs retired the side in the top of the eighth innings, DeSales took advantage of a muffed throw at first base on a sacrifice bunt as Arrigo scampered home from second base.

First-year Riley Long earned the win pitching three scoreless innings allowing just one hit.

Game Two (L/2-3)
First-year Ava Goodman had a two-RBI single in the first inning giving DSU a 2-0 lead and that lead stood into the top of the seventh inning when the Knights scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to rally in the bottom half of the inning.

Senior Kylie Bryant had two hits to lead the offense.

Sophomore Rachel Lowry suffered the loss pitching all seven innings, striking out five.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they host St. Elizabeth University for another non-conference doubleheader.
