Men's Lacrosse Dominates Second-Half in 16-15 Comeback Win over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (April 12, 2023) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team shook off a seven goal deficit scoring nine straight goals in the third quarter to earn a 16-15 come-from-behind win over Misericordia University in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 16, Misericordia - 15
  • Records: DeSales (4-7, 2-1 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (5-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom)
  • This is DSU's second straight win over the Cougars evening the all-time series at 10 wins a piece.
How it Happened
  • DeSales controlled play in the first quarter out-scoring MU, 3-1.
  • The second quarter was all Misericordia as the Cougars scored the first nine goals of the quarter to take a 10-3 lead before DSU scored two minutes before the half to trail by six at the halftime break.
  • The two teams traded goals over the first nine minutes of the third quarter as the Bulldogs continued to trail by six (11-5) before DeSales scored nine goals in the span of 4:30 to take a 14-11 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
  • During the incredible stretch, DSU scored four goals in a span of one minute to end the third quarter, taking a 13-11 lead.
  • MU battled back to get within one (16-15) with 3:30 left but DeSales won the ensuing face-off, got the rebound on several saved shots reseting the shot clock, and ran out the clock after back-to-back Cougar penalties to earn the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Zach Broomall and sophomore Anthony Gash were two huge contributors in this one winning 27-of-35 faceoffs between the two of them and scoring three goals and two assists to completely dominate faceoffs.
  • Broomall had nine ground balls and Gash added 15 ground balls.
  • Junior TJ Herron had four goals and junior Colin Adams had a goal and three assists.
  • Sophomore Jake Fratarcangeli scored twice and first-year Mark Winkler Jr. finished with two goals and an assist.
  • Junior Luke Kelchner added four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win.
For the Foes
  • Kyle and Ryan Vandenberg each had four goals and one assist.
  • Robert Wagner finished with three goals and two assists.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales dominated the stat sheet out-shooting MU, 59-39, and holding a 50-28 advantage in ground balls.
  • DSU won 27-of-35 face-offs and scored on 3-of-4 man-up opportunities.
