Center Valley, PA (April 26, 2023) - The DeSales University softball salvaged a split of its MAC Freedom doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon taking game two, 8-6, with FDU-Florham at McGettigan Park.
The Bulldogs now sit alone in fifth place in the MAC Freedom standings with one doubleheader left tomorrow evening with first place Misericordia University. There are several scenarios that still exist to qualify among the top five for the MAC Freedom postseason. DSU can clinch a spot among the top five without needing help if they sweep Misericordia on Thursday. A split would give the Bulldogs a shot at earning a spot but they would need help in other games.
Game One (L/6-9)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in this one as seniorÂ
Chloe Pauls knocked in fellow seniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Devils caught fire in the top of the fifth offensively scoring twice in the fifth and sixth before putting the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh.
DeSales added five runs in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of an FDU error to post the final margin.
SophomoreÂ
Rachel Lowry took the loss allowing nine runs over 6 1/3 innings, striking out four.
SeniorÂ
Victoria Agnoli had three hits, while seniorÂ
Kylie Bryant, sophomoreÂ
Tori Kenney, Pauls, and juniorÂ
Alexys Vernier all had two hits. Pauls knocked in four runs in the loss.
Game Two (W/8-6)
After both teams exchanged runs in the first inning, DSU took advantage of two Devil errors in the secong inning scoring four runs on just two hits including a two-RBI single from Bryant.
Kenney added a solo home run in the third inning giving the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead.
FDU tied the game at six with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, but DSU got an RBI single from Agnoli and a sacrifice fly from Vernier to take an 8-6 lead and Lowry pitched two scoreless to preserve the win.
Lowry earned her 12th win of the year with two scoreless in relief, striking out two.
Agnoli and seniorÂ
Nicole Secara combined to score five runs at the top of the order.
