JT Anderosky had a walk-off RBI single in game one and junior
Jared Drake fired a 5-hit complete game shutout in game two leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Stevens in MAC Freedom action on Thursday evening.
The sweep moves DeSales into a tie for third place with the Ducks setting up a one-game playoff essentially for the #3 seed and avoiding the #4/#5 play-in game. DSU will travel to Stevens tomorrow afternoon for that game with first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
Game One (W/3-2)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when junior
Travis Kerr stole home on a double steal and sophomore
Justin DeStaso had an RBI single plating junior
Gavin Zavorski.
Stevens tied the game at two in the top of the third inning and the game remained tied into the seventh inning.
The Ducks put runners on second and third with no one out in the top of the seventh inning but graduate student
JJ Paul entered the game and struck out three straight batters to get out of the jam.
In the bottom of the seventh, DeStaso singled thru the right side and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from first-year
John Rorick. Anderosky came to the plate and laced a single to the right centerfield gap easily scoring DeStaso with the game-winner.
Paul earned the win and DSU got a terrific effort from sophomore
Mike Romano who pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief striking out four. First-year
Carson Allison and DeStaso each had two hits in the
Game Two (W/5-0)
DeSales scored all five of its runs in the first and second innings as Kerr had a two-RBI single in the first and Zavorski knocked in the third with a sacrifice fly. In the second, Rorick and Anderosky both scored on wild pitches and Drake did the rest.
Drake only allowed one runner to reach base until the seventh inning when the Ducks loaded that bases with two outs before Drake punched out his sixth Duck of the evening to record his third win of the year.
Anderosky finished game two 3-for-4 with two runs scored and senior
Joe Grigas IV also had two hits.
