Baseball Splits DH with Merchant Marine Academy

Center Valley, PA (April 8, 2023) - The DeSales University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with US Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon at Weiland Park.

Game One (L/5-6)
USMMA took a 5-1 lead with three runs in the first and two runs in the third inning.

DSU got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back bases loaded walks and got within 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning on two-RBI double from first-year Carson Allison.

The Bulldogs had runners on first and third with one out in the sixth before a line drive double play ended the threat and left two runners at the corners with two outs in the seventh ending the threat.

Sophomore Gabe Diaz finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and junior Gavin Zavorski had two hits in the game one loss.

Game Two (W/10-3)
Trailing 1-0, DeSales scored four times in the third and three times in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back in the second game.

Allison had a two run double in the fourth and Giaz and first-year JT Anderosky each added RBI singles in the fourth.

DSU added three more runs in the sixth on RBI doubles from first-year John Rorick and Allison, and an RBI single from senior Joe Grigas IV.

Anderosky was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Allison, Diaz, and Rorick all had two hits in game two.

Junior Ryan Rieber earned the win pitching 4 1/3 strong allowing just two earned runs. Sophomore Mike Romano pitched 2 2/3 scoreless in relief.

DSU is back on the diamond on Monday when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference game at Weiland Park at 5:00 pm.
