Quick Start Leads Men's Lacrosse past Arcadia, 16-10, in MAC Freedom Semifinals

Center Valley, PA (May 3, 2023) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored seven straight goals thru the start of the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead and never really looked back from there in a 16-10 win over Arcadia University in the MAC Freedom Semifinals on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 16, Arcadia - 10
  • Records: DeSales (10-7 Overall); Arcadia (7-10 Overall)
  • It is DSU's second straight win in the series and in the last week over the Knights as DeSales improves to 7-3 all-time vs. Arcadia.
  • DeSales advances to the MAC Freedom Championship game for the fourth time in team history. DSU took home its only MAC Freedom title in 2019.
  • The Bulldogs will travel to top seeded, Stevens, who also earned a spot in the championship game on Wednesday with a win over Misericordia, at 5 PM on Saturday evening.
How it Happened
  • After trading goals to start the game, DeSales, who won 7-of-9 faceoffs in the first quarter dominated the final 10 minutes of the first quarter scoring six straight goals to take a 7-1 lead.
  • Junior TJ Herron kept the momentum going with the first goal of the second quarter to give DSU an 8-1 lead.
  • Arcadia chipped away scoring five straight goals to pull within 8-6 with 2:13 remaining in the half before Herron closed the half with another goal to give the Bulldogs a 9-6 halftime cushion.
  • Herron scored the first goal of the third quarter and first-year Kellan Baklund scored at the 8:35 mark of the third quarter giving DeSales an 11-6 lead.
  • Following a Knight goal, junior Colin Adams closed the quarter with two straight goals as DeSales took a 13-7 lead and the Bulldogs cruised home with the win in the final quarter.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Adams finished with four goals and three assists to lead the scoring attack.
  • Herron also scored four goals and senior Domenic Maria totaled three goals and an assist.
  • Sophomore Jake Fratarcangeli had two goals and two assists and senior Beau Neff added three assists.
  • Senior Zach Broomall (9-for-14, 7 GB's) and sophomore Anthony Gash (9-for-15, 8 GB's) dominated the face-off circle.
  • Junior Quinten Lyons finished with 12 saves in goal.
For the Foes
  • Justin Chinici and Brian Albertsen each had three goals for the Knights.
  • Landan Hajek added a goal and two assists.
  • Nathaniel Hudgins finished with 17 saves in goal.
Inside the Box Score
  • Arcadia out-shot DeSales, 48-47, but the Bulldogs put more shots on net, 33-22.
  • DSU dominated faceoffs winning 18-of-29, and also held a 41-28 advantage in ground balls.
  • AU committed eight penalites vs. just one for DeSales.
