Annville, PA (July 5, 2023) - Six DeSales University student-athletes were honored on Wednesday afternoon being named to the Winter Academic All-MAC Team in their respective sports as announced by the conference office and as voted on by the Sports Information Directors in the MAC Freedom and MAC Commonwealth.
The Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2023 spring semester. The team consists of 10 student-athletes from both the MAC Freedom and MAC Commonwealth teams voted on and selected by the Sports Information Directors of the MAC schools highlighting each student-athletes academic and athletic credentials. To be eligible you must have a 3.2 GPA for the 2023 semester of your championship season.
The six student-athletes earning the honor this season were: juniorÂ
Elijah Eberly (men's basketball), seniorÂ
Megan Bealer (women's basketball), juniorÂ
Mikaela Reese (women's basketball), seniorÂ
Carl Tyce (men's indoor track & field), seniorÂ
Amelia Smith (women's indoor track & field), and sophomoreÂ
Shae Zeitler (women's indoor track & field).
Eberly, an accounting major, finished the season averaging 10.6 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game while recording four double-doubles this year and shooting 57.5 percent from the field. He was named to the CoBL Division III All-Area Third-Team, All-MAC Freedom First-Team, D3hoops.com All-Region Second-Team, and NABC District 4 All-District Second-Team.
Bealer, a healthcare administration major, led the team in scoring at 14.1 points game, while pulling down 6.1 rebounds per game. She was also first on the team with 77 assists and was ranked among the top 20 in the country with 110 steals on the season. She garnered several postseason awards including WBCA All-Region First-Team and HM All-American honors, D3hoops.com All-Region Second-Team, All-MAC Freedom First-Team, and MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year honors. She also earned CoBL Division III All-Area First-Team.
Reese, an early childhood education major, finished the year averaging 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and leading the team with 66 blocked shots. She has earned D3hoops.com Region IV Second-Team honors, All-MAC Freedom First-Team, and CoBL Division III All-Area Second-Team.
Tyce, a biology major, had a terrific indoor season being named the MAC Scholar-Athlete as well as earning USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 800-meters. Tyce took home MAC Gold three times as part of the DMR and 4x800 meter relay team as well as in the 800-meters at the MAC Indoor Championships.
Smith, a criminal justice major, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors three times as a member of the DMR relay team as well as in the mile and 3,000-meters. She earned MAC Gold as part of the DMR relay team and took third place in both the mile and 3K at the MAC Indoor Championships.
Zeitler, a medical studies major, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors as part of the DMR relay team. She also earned MAC Gold as a member of the DMR relay team and was part of the 4x800 relay team that placed fifth at the MAC Indoor Championships.
