Field Hockey Suffers 3-2 Double OT Loss at Swarthmore

Swarthmore, PA (September 13, 2023) - The DeSales University field hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but were unable to hold on falling at Swarthmore College, 3-2, in double overtime in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Basics

  • Records: DeSales (1-3 overall), Swarthmore (2-2 overall)
  • This was just the second meeting between these two teams all-time, with the Garnet evening the series at one win each.
  • It is DSU's third straight loss, all coming by one goal, and two coming in double overtime.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when sophomore Jordyne Stong scored off a corner feed from senior Maddie Trocki.
  • The lead was still one into the third quarter when Strong scored again, unassisted just 2:40 into the second-half.
  • Swarthmore got one goal back at 38:27 as the lead stood at one goal late into the fourth quarter.
  • The Garnet tied the game with just 4:12 left in the game.
  • Neither team scored in the first overtime and Swarthmore got the game-winner two minutes into the second OT to complete the three goal comeback.

  • The goals are Stong's first of the season.
  • Trocki earned her first assist of the season.
  • Senior Kayla Yeatman made seven saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

  • Amelia Landry, Katherine Kohn, and Sophia Hitchingham scored the goals for the Garnet.
