Big Second-Half Keeps Women's Basketball Unbeaten in MAC Freedom with Win over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (January 24, 2024) - The DeSales University women's basketball team out-scored Misericordia University, 47-15, in the second-half erasing a two-point halftime deficit to stay unbeaten in the MAC Freedom after a 70-38 win over the Cougars on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: #20 DeSales - 70, Misericordia - 38
  • Records: #20 DeSales (16-2, 7-0 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (7-11, 1-6 MAC Freedom)
  • It was DSU's 12th straight win in the series and improves DeSales to 43-12 all-time vs. the Cougars.
  • The Bulldogs finish the first-half of the MAC Freedom regular season undefeated and in first place having won nine straight overall.
How it Happened
  • DSU started slowly but finished the first quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 13-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • The lead grew to 10 points (21-11) with about five minutes left in the half but the Cougars caught fire, out-scoring DeSales, 14-2 over the final 5:11 to take a two-point halftime lead (25-23).
  • MU hit a three-pointer to open the second-half but it was all Bulldogs after that.
  • DeSales finished the third quarter on out-scoring Misericordia, 24-2, to take a 47-30 lead.
  • The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Bulldogs scored 23 points and held the Cougars to just eight to win comfortably.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Four players finished in double digits led by seniors Olivia Scotti and Megan Bealer with 14 points each.
  • Bealer added seven steals and Scotti had eight rebounds.
  • Senior Mikaela Reese flirted with a triple-double finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, adding three blocks in the win.
  • Senior Lindsey Welsh added 13 points.
  • Sophomore Mikaili Donmoyer was just two points shy of also hitting double digits with eight points.
For the Foes
  • Skylar Bianchi was tremendous in the first-half scoring 18 of MU's 25 points, but had just two in the second-half, to finish as the lone double digit scorer with 20 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU scored 23 second chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.
  • The Bulldogs forced 26 Cougar turnovers and scored 27 points off those turnovers.

  • DeSales is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Arcadia University in a battle of the top two teams in the MAC Freedom standings thru the first seven games. Tip is set for 1:00 pm.
