Men's Basketball Torches Nets in 81-71 Win at FDU-Florham

Madison, NJ (January 6, 2024) - The DeSales University men's basketball team shot 54.9 percent from the field extending its win streak to eight straight games in an 81-71 win at FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 81, FDU-Florham - 71
  • Records: DeSales (11-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom); FDU-Florham (3-10, 0-2 MAC Freedom)
  • This was DSU's 14th straight win over the Devils and improves DeSales to 42-15 all-time vs. FDU-Florham.
How it Happened
  • DeSales raced out of the gates in this one opening up a 15-2 lead in the first 5:24 of the game as all five starters scored led by by five points each from seniors Will Bowen and Christian Guldin.
  • The lead hovered between eight and 12 points most of the half before reaching its peak at 16 points (36-20) with 2:37 to go and settling at 10 (38-28) entering the halftime locker rooms.
  • The Devils caught fire to start the second-half using a 12-2 run out of the locker rooms to tie the game at 40 for the first time day.
  • It went back-and-forth over the next several minutes but the Bulldogs never trailed and eventually used a 9-1 run to regain a double digit lead (65-54) with 7:27 remaining led by five points from senior Elijah Eberly.
  • FDU-Florham got within six points with 4:48 to go but a three-point play from senior Mason Barnes and bucket from Bowen pushed the advantage back to 11 points and the Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • It was another balanced attack from the Bulldogs as five players reached double digits led by Eberly with 16 points off the bench.
  • Bowen and Barnes each had 12 points, with Barnes adding four helpers.
  • Senior Caleb Gibbs had another double-double, his third of the year, with 11 points and 10 boards.
  • Junior Devin Atkinson was also in double digits with 11 points off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Micah Moore lead all scorers with 20 points.
  • Jaqwan Washington had 13 points off the bench.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs shot a very efficient 54.9 percent from the field.
  • DSU had 46 of its 81 points in the paint and out-rebounded the Devils, 40-27.
  • Both teams took excellent care of the ball combining for just 12 turnovers in the game.
  • DeSales had a decisive advantage at the foul line shooting 35 free throws as compared to just seven for FDU.
