Second Half Goals Dooms Men's Soccer in 2-1 Loss to Stevens

Center Valley, PA (October 12, 2024) - The DeSales University men's soccer team let a 1-0 second-half lead slip away as Stevens scored twice late in the second-half in a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon.

  • Records: DeSales (9-3-0, 1-1 MAC Freedom); Stevens (5-2-3, 2-0 MAC Freedom)
  • DeSales loses its third straight game to the Ducks dropping their record to 1-4 all-time.
  • The loss snaps a three game win streak heading into today's game. 
How it Happened
  • A scoreless game saw its first goal in the 57th minute when first-year Peter Cardinale scored first collegiate goal unassisted on a left footed blast from about 25 yards out that beat the keeper top left to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. 
  • It took Stevens just 17 seconds to answer back on a pass inside the box from Dylan Maund that found Emerico Vespucci in front of the goal for the equalizer. 
  • The Ducks netted what would be the game-winning goal in the 76th minute on header goal from Kyle Rothwell which was started by Maund once again to give Stevens the 2-1 lead and the final tally. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Cardinale scored his first goal of the season. 
  • First-year Jimmy Shensky made four saves in goal for the Bulldogs. 
For the Foes
  • Vespucci and Rothwell scored the goals for the Ducks.
  • Maund tallied two assists. 
  • Guillermo Castaneda-Chang did not record a save but there was a team save in the win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Stevens had a 11-9 advantage in shots and 6-2 edge in shots on goal. 
  • DeSales took seven of 10 corner kicks in the game.
