Men's Soccer Tallies Eighth Win of the Season in 2-0 Feat over Albright

Center Valley, PA (October 2, 2024) - The DeSales University men's soccer team earned its eighth win of the season in shutout fashion with a 2-0 victory over Albright College on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 2, Albright - 0
  • Records: DeSales (8-2); Albright (7-2)
  • The win moves the Bulldogs to 10-3 all-time vs. the Lions. 
  • Bulldogs tally their seventh shutout win of the season. 
How it Happened
  • The first half featured an evenly matched battle with neither team finding the back of the net in a scoreless first half heading into the break.
  • In the 63rd minute, junior Owen Maher drew a foul within the corner of the box which gave way to junior Joseph Reteneller to cash on the PK to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. 
  • DSU got some insurance in the 83rd minute when junior Liam MacDonald connected on a one-timer off a free kick entry from about 25 yards out by senior Elek McDonald, which gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead and the defense would its ground to preserve the shutout win. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Reteneller scored his fourth goal of the season; all by way of penalty kicks. 
  • MacDonald scored his team-leading ninth goal of the year in the win.
  • McDonald tallied his third assist of the year.
  • First-year Jimmy Shensky made three saves in the goal.
For the Foes
  • Cooper Walters had two saves for the Lions.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs had a 12-4 advantage in shots, and 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • DSU also had a decisive 9-4 edge in corner kicks for the game.
