Center Valley, PA (October 26, 2024) - The DeSales University volleyball team split two matches on Saturday, defeating Hunter College, 3-1, before falling to Montclair State University, 3-2, on senior day in Billera Hall.
Match #1 (W/3-1 vs. Hunter)
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 win in the opening set before Hunter tied the match at one with a 25-23 win in the second set. DSU regained the lead with a 25-21 win in the second set and closed the match out with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
First-yearÂ
Allison Reimer led the attack with 12 kills, hitting .310 for the match, adding 13 digs and four service aces. SeniorÂ
Samantha Worontzoff added 10 kills, hitting .333, and totaled three blocks. Fellow seniorÂ
Paige Lewis had eight kills and hit .350, totaling five blocks.
SophomoreÂ
Bryanna Purisima had 18 assists, six service aces, and 11 digs in the win and first-yearÂ
Kylie Campbell totaled nine digs and two aces.
Match #2 (L/2-3 vs. Montclair State)
DSU had control of this match taking the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-23. MSU refused to go away taking a 10-1 lead in the third set and holding on for a 25-21 win, winning the fourth set, 25-23, and closing out the match with a 15-12 fifth set win.
DeSales hit .314 and had just five hitting errors in the first set and hit .194 with just four hitting errors in the second set to get out to a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs the combined for 24 errors over the final three sets, committing 10 in each of the third and fourth sets.
Reimer once again led the charge with 12 kills, hitting .178, and adding 17 digs. JuniorÂ
Joy Kindall added 11 kills, hitting .360 for the match, while Lewis (9 kills), first-yearÂ
Brooke Signorella (9 kills), and Worontzoff (8 kills) also contributed.
Campbell had 20 digs to lead the back row and Purisima finished with 21 assists and 10 digs. First-yearÂ
Ashlyn Dinan finished with 19 assists and 14 digs and first-yearÂ
Grace Pfaff had 19 digs.
DSU is back in action on Tuesday when they host FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom match beginning at 7:00 pm.
