Four Players in Double Digits Leading Women's Basketball Past Shenandoah, 81-71

Center Valley, PA (November 16, 2024) - Four players scored in double digits leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Shenandoah University, 81-71, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 81, Shenandoah - 71
  • Records: DeSales (3-1 Overall); Shenandoah (0-2 Overall)
  • DeSales is now 8-0 all-time vs. the Hornets and a perfect 4-0 at home.
  • This was the first meeting since 2019 when these two teams met in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
How it Happened
  • DeSales finished the first quarter on an 11-5 run over the final 4:24 to take an 18-14 lead on a layup from junior Lindsay Bednarek just beating the buzzer.
  • DSU never trailed in the second quarter, taking its largest lead at the half on a step-back triple from junior Mikaili Donmoyer (42-32).
  • The Bulldogs dominated the start of the third quarter using a 12-1 run to take its largest lead of the game (54-33) with 5:40 left in the third quarter.
  • The lead remained 21 with 3:05 left in the quarter before the Hornets finished the quarter on a 10-2 run to cut the margin down to 13 points (62-49).
  • Shenandoah didn't stop there, scoring the first eight points of the fourth quarter to get within five with 7:13 left to play.
  • A step-back three from Donmoyer quieted the run and a bucket from first-year Aubrey Pollard pushed the advantage back up to 10 points with 4:48 to go.
  • The Hornets got back within five at the 3:21 mark but the Bulldog defense clamped down and held SU scoreless over the next 2:55 to regain control of the game and iced the win from the free throw line.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Donmoyer led the Bulldogs with a season-high 19 points, hitting three 3's.
  • Senior Morgan Sterner had 18 points and added four steals.
  • First-year Alexis Berger finished with a season-high 16 points, all in the first-half, and added six steals.
  • Pollard came off the bench to score 13 points and pull down six rebounds.
  • First-year Marissa LaVerghetta had nine points and junior Sammi White blocked four shots.
For the Foes
  • Terese Greene had 35 points to lead all scorers.
  • Maddie Kimble finished with 10 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • Shenandoah out-rebounded DeSales, 43-34, leading to an 18-6 advantage in second chance points.
  • DeSales shot 41.1 percent from the field and was outstanding from the free throw line hitting 29-for-33 (87.9 percent).
  • The Bulldogs held the Hornets to just 33.8 percent shooting.
