Strong Second-Half Lifts Women's Basketball past Moravian, 64-53

Center Valley, PA (November 25, 2024) - The DeSales University women's basketball shook off a one-point halftime deficit out-scoring Moravian University by 12 in the second-half in a 64-53 win over its local rival on Monday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 64, Moravian - 53
  • Records: DeSales (4-2 Overall); Moravian (1-4 Overall)
  • DeSales has now won six straight in the series between the two teams as the Bulldogs improve to 29-20 in the all-time series.
How it Happened
  • First-year Alexis Berger started the game with a 3, but Moravian scored the next eight points to take an 8-3 lead and led by four (16-12) after one quarter of play.
  • Trailing by six early in the second quarter sophomore Lillirose Lang and first-year Kayla Ishigami hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie tthe game at 23 and remained tied until a three-point play from Moravian gave the Greyhounds a 30-29 halftime advantage.
  • Moravian continued to lead by four mid-way thru the third quarter when the Bulldogs used an 8-0 run highlighted by 3's from junior Mikaili Donmoyer and Ishigami to take a 45-41 lead and continued to lead by two points (47-45) after three quarters of play.
  • It was a back-and-forth start to the fourth quarter that saw DSU still leading by two (54-52) with 5:43 left to play.
  • The DeSales defense took over from there holding the Greyhounds to just one point over the final 5:43 as the Bulldogs ended the game on a 10-1 run to take home the 64-53 win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Berger led the way with a game-high 18 points, hitting 4-for-8 from three-point land.
  • Donmoyer added 17 points, hitting 3 three's.
  • Junior Sammi White was just one point and one rebound shy of a double-double with nine of each.
  • First-year Marissa LaVerghetta pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds and handed out five assists in the win.
For the Foes
  • Jayda Cartagena finished with 13 points to lead the Greyhounds.
  • Lizzie Lustig and Brielle Guarente each had nine points.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle, 44-29, including 21 offensive rebounds leading to 14 second chance points.
  • DeSales made a season-high 11 3's, hitting 39.3 percent from outside the arc.
