Baseball Opens Season with 13-9 Win at Bridgewater

Bridgewater, VA (February 17, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team opened its 2024 season with a 13-9 win at Bridgewater College (VA) on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 13, Bridgewater (VA) - 9
  • Records: DeSales (1-0 overall); Bridgewater (1-2 overall)
  • It is DSU's second straight win over BC and improves its all-time record with Bridgewater to 4-7.
Scoring Summary
  • DeSales took a 4-0 lead with three runs in the first and one more in the second on a solo home run from sophomore Andrew McGowan.
  • Bridgewater answered with a run in the third and three in tourth to tie the score at four.
  • DSU got three runs in the fith on an RBI single from senior Gavin Zavorski and senior Zachary Zuckowski and an RBI double from sophomore Shane Anhalt.
  • After Bridgewater scored once in the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs tacked on four more runs in the sixth on two RBI hits from junior Owen Fischl and senior Travis Kerr.
  • The Eagles answered with four of their own in the bottom half to make it an 11-9 game after six innings.
  • DeSales tacked on solo runs in the eighth on an RBI double from sophomore JT Anderosky and ninth on a sacrifice fly from Anhalt.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Anderosky and Fischl each had four hits to lead a 15-hit attack.
  • Kerr and Anhalt each knocked in three runs.
  • Fischl scored three times and had two RBIs and Anderosky and junior Patrick Kusters each scored twice along with sophomore Justin DeStaso.
  • Sophomore Anthony Schieble earned the win.
  • Junior Ashton Johnson pitched three strong innings of relief allowing two runs.
For the Foes
  • B. Hartman, L. Tomajczyk, and K. Carlson each had two hits for Bridgewater.
