Baseball Splits Two at Bridgewater Winning Game One, 6-3

Bridgewater, VA (February 17, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team concluded its three-game set to open the 2024 season at Bridgewater College (VA) splitting a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 6, Bridgewater (VA) - 3 (Game One); Bridgewater (VA) - 7, DeSales - 3 (Game Two)
  • Records: DeSales (2-1 overall); Bridgewater (2-3 overall)
  • The Bulldogs move to 5-8 all-time vs. the Eagles in the all-time series.
Scoring Summary
  • In game one, DSU took a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI double from first-year Jack Sague and an RBI triple from first-year Jeremy Stranix.
  • The Bulldogs made it 3-0 in the third on an RBI single from senior Gavin Zavorski.
  • It was a 4-1 game entering the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Andrew McGowan worked out of a one out jam stranding two runners on base and both teams exchanged two runs in the seventh to post the final score.
  • In game two, Bridgewater got a run in the first inning that was the lone run of the game till the Eagles exploded for six runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
  • DeSales got three runs back in the top of the seventh.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Zavorski had three hits in game one.
  • Senior Travis Kerr and junior Patrick Kusters each had two hits in the game one win.
  • Sophomore Mike Hooker earned the win pitching four innings allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
  • McGowan earned the save allowing two runs over 1 2/3 innings pitched.
  • Zavorski had two more hits in game two.
For the Foes
  • L. Bauer was a perfect 5-for-5 in the two games at the plate.

  • The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend when they are scheduled to play three games over Saturday and Sunday at Methodist University.
