Women's Lacrosse Opens Season 2-0 After 18-10 Win at Alvernia

Reading, PA (March 1, 2024) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team opened the season 2-0 for just the second time in school history after an 18-10 win at Alvernia University in non-conference action on Friday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 18, Alvernia - 10
  • Records: DeSales (2-0 overall); Alvernia (2-2 overall)
  • The win evens up the all-time series at two wins each with the Golden Wolves.
  • The Bulldogs also started the 2020 season 2-0.
How it Happened
  • The two teams traded goals in the first quarter before Alvernia scored two straight to end the quarter taking a 4-3 lead.
  • After trading goals once again to start the second quarter, junior Jess Brey finished the half scoring three straight goals to give the Bulldogs a 7-5 halftime lead.
  • The run continued into the third quarter as DeSales scored the first three goals of the second-half to take a 10-5 lead.
  • Alvernia answered with two goals to cut the margin down to three but the Bulldogs countered with the last two goals of the third quarter to reclaim a five goal lead.
  • After AU scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, DSU scored four straight to take a 16-8 lead and never looked back from there.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Brey once again led the way with six goals and an assist, adding four ground balls, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers.
  • First-year Sophia Campola had two goals and two assists.
  • Sophomore Hailey Linebaugh and junior Meagan Landers had two goals and an assist with Landers adding three draw controls.
  • Sophomore Bridey Lawler and senior Hayley Petrosini each had two goals, with Petrosini adding four draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
  • Junior Michaela Regan finished with eight saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Meagan Moky finished with four goals and an assist.
  • Haleigh Lackner totaled three goals.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs out-shot the Golden Wolves, 35-21 and had a slim 21-18 edge in ground balls.
  • DSU won 17 draw controls and were 4-for-6 in free position shots.
