Baseball Wins Third Straight in Another Slugfest, 20-19, over Swarthmore

Center Valley, PA (March 20, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team scored 20+ runs for the second straight game, winning its third straight, in another slugfest, 20-19, over Swarthmore College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

There were just three 1/2 innings where a team didn't score a run in this one.  The Bulldogs scored in every inning except the 7th and the Garnet scored in all but the third and ninth innings.

The Bulldogs rallied down 4-0, 5-2, and 10-8 to earn the win.

Tied at 14 in the bottom of the sixth inning, DSU scored five times to take a 19-14 lead thanks to RBI singles from sophomore JT Anderosky, junior Justin DeStaso, senior Zachary Zuchowski, and senior Gavin Zavorski, along with an RBI double from first-year Jack Sague.

Swarthmore tied the game at 19 in the top of the eighth, but junior Patrick Kusters singled home Zuchowski giving DeSales a 20-19 lead and sophomore Zach Rothermel pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the win.

Anderosky finished the game 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs, DeStaso was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, Zuchowski was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and five RBIs.  First-year Ty Akins finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, Kusters had three hits and two runs scored, and sophomore John Rorick finished with three hits.

The Bulldogs are back on the diamond on Friday when they host Lebanon Valley College in the first of three games this weekend beginning at 3:30 pm at Weiland Park.
