Center Valley, PA (March 30, 2024) - The DeSales University softball used back-to-back strong pitching performances to earn an important sweep of Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon by scores of 3-1 and 4-3 at McGettigan Park.
Game One (W/3-1)
DSU fell behind 1-0 in the second inning after a solo home run by the Knights but tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from first-yearÂ
Paige Hromin.
It remained a tie game into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bulldogs loaded the bases with no one out and got the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly from juniorÂ
Tori Kenney and added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double froom sophomoreÂ
Ava Goodman.
JuniorÂ
Rachel Lowry earned the win in the circle, her seventh of the season, allowing five hits and just one run over seven innings, striking out seven. Goodman, seniorÂ
Victoria Agnoli, and sophomoreÂ
Morgan Benner each had two hits in the game one win.
Game Two (W/4-3)
DSU scored one run in each of the first three innings on a sacrifice fly from seniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro, RBI double from first-yearÂ
Melissa Hickey, and Knight scoring error to lead 3-1 into the seventh inning.
Arcadia tied the score at three with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh.
SeniorÂ
Alexys Vernier started the bottom half of the frame with a single and moved to second on a bunt single from Hromin. After a wild pitch and walk the bases were loaded with one out and Vernier scored after a play at the plate ruled her safe because the catcher didn't hold the bag on the throw home after a check swing ground ball to first base.
Vernier and Hromin each had two hits in the game two win. Lowry earned her eighth win in the circle, pitching 2/3 in the seventh inning to escape trouble after Arcadia tied the game.
DSU is back in action on Saturday, April 6th when they travel to FDU-Florham for a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
