Rachel Lowry tossed a one-hit shutout in game one and senior
Alexys Vernier had four RBIs in game two leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep at FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.
Game One (W/10-0)
Lowry allowed just one hit and three base-runners all afternoon, dominating the Devils, striking out four.
DSU took control of this one from the very start scoring six runs in the top of the first inning with the big blow coming from first-year
Kiara Castera, a three-RBI triple.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the third, including a two-RBI double from sophomore
Morgan Benner.
Lowry earned her ninth win of the season.
Five different players had two hits including senior
Victoria Agnoli, Benner, Vernier, first-year
Paige Hromin, and junior
Madison Kelly.
Game Two (W/9-5)
DSU got off to another quick start with two runs in the top of the first inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Vernier and junior
Tori Kenney.
The Bulldogs took a 6-1 lead in the third as sophomore
Melissa Hickey had a two-RBI single and sophomore
Ava Goodman knocked in a run.
The Devils cut the margin down to one (6-5) entering the sixth inning when Vernier put the exclamation point on the sweep hitting a three-run home run in the sixth.
Junior
Alanna Hartzell earned the win with four strong innings of relief allowing just two runs.
Vernier finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Senior
Kayleigh Ferraro had two hits and Hickey also had three hits and two RBIs.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Neumann University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm.
