Leesburg, FL (March 4, 2024) - The DeSales University softball team stayed unbeaten this season winning two more on day two of its spring trip taking down Alvernia University and Johnson & Wales University on Monday afternoon.
Game One (W/5-2 vs. Alvernia)
The Bulldogs fell behind early in this one as the Golden Wolves scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
DSU got one run back in the top of the second on an Alvernia error and took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the third inning when seniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro and first-yearÂ
Cassie Zellner each had RBIs.
DeSales got some important insurance runs in the sixth on back-to-back triples from first-yearÂ
Paige Hromin andÂ
Kiara Castera and a double from juniorÂ
Abigail Rodriguez.
SophomoreÂ
Riley Long did the rest earning the win with four innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Ferraro and Rodriguez each had two hits in the win.
Game Two (W/6-1 vs. Johnson & Wales)
Once again DSU fell behind as J&W scored one run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs countered in the bottom half of the inning scoring four times including an inside the park 3-run home run from Castera. DeSales added two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from seniorÂ
Alexys Vernier and RBI single from Rodriguez.
JuniorÂ
Rachel Lowry improved to 3-0 in the circle allowing just one run over seven innings, striking out two.
DSU is off tomorrow before they take on University of Mount Union and Elms College on Wednesday.
