Leesburg, FL (March 7, 2024) - The DeSales University softball team split its final two games of its spring trip to Florida on Thursday to finish its trip with a 5-2 record in seven games played.
Game One (W/1-0 vs. Fontbonne)
This one was a good ole fashion pitcher's duel. DeSales scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from first-yearÂ
Kiara Castera plating seniorÂ
Alexys Vernier who walked to lead off the inning.
JuniorsÂ
Tabitha Lawless andÂ
Alanna Hartzell combined on a six hit shutout. Lawless earned the win pitching 5 1/3 scoreless allowing four hits and striking out one. Hartzell earned her first save of the season with 1 2/3 scoreless, striking out four.
Game Two (L/6-7 vs. Gordon)
DeSales trailed 6-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning when the Bulldogs climbed all the way back thanks in part to a two-RBI triple from Castera to the score at six.
Gordon got the eventual game-winning run in the top of the sixth as DSU was unable to score again to drop its final game of the trip.
SeniorÂ
Victoria Agnoli finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored, seniorÂ
Kayleigh Ferraro had three hits and two RBIs, and juniorÂ
Tori Kenney had two hits.
Hartzell suffered the loss allowing two runs, one earned over 4 1/3 innings of relief work.
