Hooker Blanks Stevens Leading Baseball to a DH Split

Hoboken, NJ (April 13, 2024) - Sophomore Mike Hooker tossed a six-hit complete game shutout in game one leading the DeSales University baseball team to a split in a MAC Freedom doubleheader at Stevens on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs record stays even at 14-14, while DSU improves to 8-6 in the MAC Freedom.

Game One (W/1-0)
Hooker was the story in this one as he allowed just six hits and one walk over seven innings. Only two Ducks got into scoring position all game working around a leadoff single and leadoff double in the first and fourth innings to preserve the shutout.

First-year Ty Akins produced the game-winning RBI singling home senior Gavin Zavorski in the top of the fourth inning.  Akins finished the game with two of DSU's five hits.

Hooker is now 4-1 on the season on the bump.

Game Two (L/1-12)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in this one in the top of the first inning on an RBI double from junior Owen Fischl but it was all Ducks from there.

Stevens scored three unearned runs in the first inning and put the game out of reach in the fourth with six runs to take a 10-1 lead.

Akins again had two hits in the loss.

These two teams meet again tomorrow at Weiland Park in game three of the weekend series with first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
