Seven Run Ninth Leads DeSales past Ursinus, 16-12

Collegeville, PA (April 15, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning breaking a tie at nine in a 16-12 win over Ursinus College in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

DSU was in control in this one opening up a 7-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning that included an RBI double from junior Owen Fischl, a two RBI single from sophomore JT Anderosky, a two RBI double from junior Justin DeStaso, and an RBI double from senior Colin McCunney.

It was a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning after an RBI single from Fischl and RBI double from senior Zachary Zuchowski in the top of the seventh inning.

The Bears rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning and tied the game at nine with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Bulldogs recovered scoring seven times in the top of the ninth inning with six hits including a solo home run from senior Gavin Zavorski, an RBI single from senior Travis Kerr, a two-RBI single from sophomore John Rorick and first-year Ty Akins, and RBI single from Anderosky.

Junior Ashton Johnson got a one-out save to preserve the win on the bump.  Sophomore Zach Rothermel pitched well at the start allowing just two runs over five innings.

Anderosky finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Fischl had two hits and two RBIs, Zuchowski had two runs, two hits, and two RBIs, Kerr had two hits and scored twice.  Junior Patrick Kusters scored twice and Rorick also scored twice and knocked in two.  DeStaso and Akins also each had two RBIs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Muhlenberg College with first pitch set for 6:00 pm.
