Comeback Falls Just Short in 14-13 Women's Lacrosse at Lebanon Valley

Annville, PA (April 20, 2024) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team saw a fourth quarter comeback fall just short dropping a 14-13 decision at Lebanon Valley College in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Lebanon Valley - 14, DeSales - 13
  • Records: DeSales (10-4, 3-2 MAC Freedom); Lebanon Valley (10-5, 5-0 MAC Freedom)
  • Today was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
How it Happened
  • DeSales got off to a slow start as LVC out-scored the Bulldogs, 5-1 in the first quarter and scored the first goal of the second quarter to lead by five (6-1).
  • DSU scored four of the next five goals to get within 7-5 and trailed by three (9-6) at the half.
  • LVC came out firing to start the third quarter scoring four of the first five goals to lead 13-7 before the Bulldogs scored with 11 seconds left in the third quarter to trail by five entering the final quarter.
  • DSU cut the margin down to three (13-10) with the first two goals of the fourth quarter.
  • The Flying Dutchmen made it a four goal game with 9:50 left when DeSales started its comeback.
  • A goal from junior Jess Brey made it 14-11 with 8:05 left.
  • Junior Meagan Landers made it a two-goal game with 4:59 to go and senior Hayley Petrosini got DSU within a goal with 1:10 left but lost the ensuing draw control and LVC was able to run out the clock spoiling the comeback.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Brey led the scoring with four goals and added four draw controls.
  • Landers had two goals and an assist as well as four draw controls.
  • Sophomore Hailey Linebaugh and sophomore Bridey Lawler each scored twice.
  • Petrosini had a goal and an assist.
  • Junior Michaela Regan finished with 11 saves in between the pipes.
For the Foes
  • Emily Beard led the Flying Dutchmen with five goals and an assist.
  • Alyssa Wene added five goals and had eight draw controls.
Inside the Box Score
  • Shots were about even, 32-29, in favor of LVC and the Flying Dutchmen had a slim 15-13 edge in ground balls.
  • LVC won 16-of-31 draw controls.
