Madison, NJ (April 5, 2024) - Junior
Owen Fischl hit a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning leading the DeSales University baseball team to an 11-10 win at FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Friday afternoon.
DSU fell behind 7-0 in this one as the Devils scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning on just two hits and five Bulldog walks.
The Bulldogs started their comeback with two runs in the fourth inning on a two-RBI double from first-year
Ty Akins, added two more runs in the fifth on RBI hits from junior
Justin DeStaso and senior
Zachary Zuchowski, and tied the game at seven in the sixth with three runs including a two-RBI triple from DeStaso.
FDU reclaimed an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the sixth but DeSales took its first lead with two runs in the seventh on RBI hits from Akins and junior
Patrick Kusters. DSU added an insurance run in the eighth to lead 10-8 entering the bottom of the ninth when FDU tied the game at 10 with two runs.
Fischl then hit a one-out solo homer giving DSU an 11-10 lead and junior
Frank Parrotti pitched around a one-out single in the bottom of the inning to finish of the win.
Junior
Ashton Johnson was outstanding in relief pitching seven innings allowing just two earned runs, striking out six. Parrotti got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Sophomore
JT Anderosky was 3-for-6, DeStaso had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, Zuchowski had three hits and scored twice, and Akins had three hits and three RBIs. Fischl, Kusters, and sophomore
John Rorick all had two hits.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday when they host FDU-Florham in games two and three of the series beginning at 1:00 pm.
