Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of FDU-Florham with DH Sweep on Sunday

Center Valley, PA (April 7, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team got a walkoff win in game one and an 8-2 win in game two completing a weekend sweep of FDU-Florham winning both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Weiland Park.

Game One (W/5-4)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double from senior Zachary Zuchowski and RBI groundout from senior Travis Kerr.

FDU tied the game at two in the third inning and led 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning.

After a leadoff walk, error on a sacrific bunt, and a bunt single, DeSales has the bases loaded no outs. The Devils got the first out at the plate. Junior Justin DeStaso then tied the game at four on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. On the play, FDU threw the ball away trying to get sophomore JT Anderosky at second base, moving up from first base on the relay and sophomore John Rorick walked home with the winning run.

DSU had just three hits in the game one win. Sophomore Andrew McGowan earned the win pitching two innings of relief allowing just one run.

Game Two (W/8-2)
The Devils led 1-0 into the bottom of the third inning when junior Owen Fischl gave DSU a 2-1 lead with a two-RBI single.

FDU tied the game at two in the fourth but the Bulldogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of six FDU walks in the inning.

The pitching staff held FDU scoreless the rest of the way to complete the sweep.

Junior Will Shelden earned the win pitching three shutout innings allowing just two hits.

DeStaso had three hits and Anderosky two hits in game two. Fischl knocked in three runs.

DSU is back in action on Wednesday when they host William Paterson University in a non-conference game beginning at 5:00 pm.
