Volleyball Drops Tight Season Opener, 3-1, to Brockport

Center Valley, PA (August 30, 2024) - The DeSales University volleyball team dropped its season opener, 3-1 (22-25, 25-27, 26-24, 21-25) in a tight four-set match on Friday evening to SUNY-Brockport.

DSU scored four straight points early in set #1 to take a 7-5 lead and led 15-10 midway through the set before Brockport scored four straight points.  The Bulldogs clung to a 19-18 lead after a kill from first-year Allison Reimer and still had a one-point lead (22-21) after a Brockport error, but the Golden Eagles scored the final four points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.

Brockport dominated the start of set #2, taking a 17-6 lead before DeSales began to chip away.  Six straight points made it 17-12, and the Bulldogs fought off three straight set points, down 24-21, to tie the score at 24.  A fourth straight point gave DSU a 25-24 lead but once again the Golden Eagles finished strong with three straight points to take a 2-0 lead, 27-25.

DeSales jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, before Brockport chipped away to take a 14-13 lead.  Trailing 18-16, DSU rattled off four straight points to lead 20-18 and this time tied at 24, they scored two straight points to force a fourth set.

It was tight at the start of the fourth set before four straight points from the Golden Eagles gave the visitors a 15-10 lead. Trailing by seven (22-15), the Bulldogs scored six of the next seven points to get within two at 23-21, but could get no closer as Brockport closed out the match.

Senior Paige Lewis and first-year Brooke Signorella each had seven kills to lead the attack with Lewis adding four blocks.  First-year Kylie Campbell led the way for the Bulldogs with 16 digs and had three aces.

DSU is back at it tomorrow when they take on Rutgers-Camden and Stevenson.
