Field Hockey Falls to #19 TCNJ, 6-1


Ewing Township, NJ (September 6, 2024) - The DeSales University field hockey team dropped its first game of the season falling to 19th ranked The College of New Jersey, 6-1, in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: TCNJ - 6, DeSales - 1
  • Records: DeSales (1-1 overall), TCNJ (2-0 overall)
  • The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-5 all-time vs. the Lions. 
How it Happened
  • TCNJ scored first in this one with a goal from Rayhanah Ahmed at 3:53.
  • About three minutes later the Lions added on to their lead when Ahmed connected once again for her second of the game to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. 
  • Late in the first period the Bulldogs answered when junior Morgan Benner found first-year student Anna Bosch on a penalty corner feed to the top, to cut the deficit down to one heading into the second period.
  • The Lions pushed the lead back to two goals when Ahmed scored again to give herself a hat trick and TCNJ a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
  • TCNJ added three more goals in the second half, two in the third period and one in the fourth period and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the 6-1 win.

  • Bosch scored her first goal of her college career. 
  • Benner tallied her first assist of the season
  • Sophomore Alyssa Schlossman made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
For the Foes
  • Ahmed had four goals to lead the Lions.
  • Prisha Dhruve had one goal and an assist.
  • Mackenzie Hart had the other TCNJ goal.
  • Bella DiNardo, Claire Engebreth, and Kara Wilson each tallied an assist.
  • Brigitte Race made five saves in goal and recorded the win.

  • TCNJ out-shot DeSales,17-14, while the Bulldogs had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
