Women's Soccer Earns First Win of Season, 3-1 over Coast Guard Academy

Center Valley, PA (September 7, 2024) - The DeSales University women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2024 season with a 3-1 win over Coast Guard Academy in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, U.S Coast Guard Academy - 1
  • Records: DeSales (1-3); U.S Coast Guard Academy (0-2)
  • This marked the first all-time meeting between the two teams.
How it Happened
  • DSU dominated possession for much of the game and got on the board in the 5th minute when junior Makayla Issakhani scored off a shot that was initially saved by the goalkeeper. 
  • About 30 seconds later the Bulldogs tacked on to the lead when Issakhani connected on her second of the game, this time on a pass from sophomore Jaden Cook to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion.
  • In the 22nd minute the Bears drew a foul in the penalty box and Sydney Park scored to cut the deficit in half, as the lead stood at 2-1 at the end of the first half.
  • The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to two goals in the 44th minute after Cook tallied her second assist of the game but this time found senior Emma Ribeiro for the score to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 lead and the final tally for their first win of the season.
