Center Valley, PA (September 7, 2024) - The DeSales University women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2024 season with a 3-1 win over Coast Guard Academy in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

• Final Score: DeSales - 3, U.S Coast Guard Academy - 1
• Records: DeSales (1-3); U.S Coast Guard Academy (0-2)
• This marked the first all-time meeting between the two teams.

How it Happened

• DSU dominated possession for much of the game and got on the board in the 5th minute when junior Makayla Issakhani scored off a shot that was initially saved by the goalkeeper. 
• About 30 seconds later the Bulldogs tacked on to the lead when Issakhani connected on her second of the game, this time on a pass from sophomore Jaden Cook to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion.
• In the 22^nd minute the Bears drew a foul in the penalty box and Sydney Park scored to cut the deficit in half, as the lead stood at 2-1 at the end of the first half.
• The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to two goals in the 44^th minute after Cook tallied her second assist of the game but this time found senior Emma Ribeiro for the score to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 lead and the final tally for their first win of the season.

• First-year student Sophia Hallal made one save and earned the win in goal.

• Emily Scharnitzky made five saves for Coastal Guard Academy.
