Men's Basketball Torches Nets in 89-73 Win over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (January 29, 2025) - The DeSales University men's basketball team shot 65.3 percent from field and 56.5 percent from outside the arc in an 89-73 win over Misericordia University on Wednesday evening in MAC Freedom action.

  • The Bulldogs have now won four straight vs. the Cougars, improving to 39-20 in the all-time series.

How it Happened
  • This game was back-and-forth with neither team winning by more than six points over the 13:35 before a 7-0 run highlighted by back-to-back step back jumpers from senior Devin Atkinson gave DeSales a 35-24 lead at the 4:32 mark of the first-half.
  • Misericordia scored four straight to get within seven but the Bulldogs finished the half on a 6-0 run to take a 41-28 lead into the locker room.
  • The Cougars whittled the margin down to six points five minutes into the second-half before DeSales took control.
  • Five straight points from Atkinson was followed by 3's from first-year Luke Keppel and senior Matt Ciszkowski capping off an 11-2 run that put DeSales up 56-41 with 12:17 to go.
  • Misericordia got within single digits (61-52) with 8:19 remaining but a 15-5 spurt from the Bulldogs, led by eight points from first-year Jayden Thomas, put the game away.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Caleb Gibbs finished with his sixth double-double of the year totaling 19 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Atkinson had a game-high 20 points, adding eight rebounds.
  • Thomas tossed in 15 points.
  • Keppel had 4 3's (12 points) off the bench and Ciszkowski also reached double figures with 10 points.
For the Foes
  • Kevin Lazdowsky had a team-high 19 points and five assists.
  • Jack Gallagher also had double-digits with 16 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs were 32-for-49 from the field and hit 13-for-23 from three-point land.
