Suffocating Defense Leads Women's Basketball Past Misericordia, 49-29

Dallas, PA (January 29, 2025) - The DeSales University women's basketball team held Misericordia University to just 16 points over the final three quarters in a 49-29 win in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • The Bulldogs have now won 14 straight in the series and improve to 45-12 all-time vs. the Cougars.
How it Happened
  • DSU trailed 9-6 early before a 9-0 run, led by four points from junior Lindsay Bednarek, gave the Bulldogs a 15-9 lead.
  • Misericordia scored the final four points of the opening quarter to trail by just two (15-13).
  • Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter as DeSales out-scored MU, 7-5, to take a 22-18 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • The second-half was all Bulldogs as they held Misericordia scoreless for the first 8:40 of the third quarter.
  • DSU scored the first 16 points of the half to take a 38-18 lead and led by 19 (40-21) after three quarters of play.
  • The Bulldogs kept the Cougars off the scoreboard for the first 6:32 of the fourth quarter to lead by 25 and never looked back from there.

  • Bednarek had the second best shooting performance in team history hitting 10-for-11 and shooting 90.9 percent from the field to tally a career-high 22 points.
  • First-year Kayla Ishigami had eight points off the bench.
  • Senior Morgan Sterner returned from injury to score seven points off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Emily Romanowski led the Cougars with five points and 10 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU held MU to just 27.3 percent shooting.
  • DeSales forced 24 turnovers and scored 24 points off those turnovers.
