Second-Half Surge Sinks Women's Basketball in 68-52 Loss at Rowan

Glassboro, NJ (January 4, 2025) - Rowan University scored 42 points and shot 51.7 percent from the field in the second-half in a 68-52 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Rowan - 68, DeSales - 52
  • Records: DeSales (7-4 Overall); Rowan (8-4 Overall)
  • This was the third career meeting between the two teams and the first since the 1993-94 season with the Profs moving to 3-0 all-time vs. the Bulldogs.
How it Happened
  • The first quarter was back-and-forth with Rowan holding a seven-point lead before a three from senior Morgan Sterner cut the margin down to four at the end of the frame.
  • Rowan took an 11--point lead early in the second quarter but the Bulldogs chipped away and got within three points thanks to an 8-0 run over the final 5:07 to make it 26-23 at the halftime break.
  • The two teams traded baskets to start the second-half and the Profs led by five at the 5:16 mark of the third quarter before the two teams traded 7-0 runs.
  • Rowan ended the quarter scoring six straight points to claim a 51-40 lead.
  • First-year Kayla Ishigami cut the margin down to seven points at the 6:21 mark of the fourth quarter.
  • Rowan took control from there finishing the game on an 11-2 run to post the final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • First-year Alexis Berger led the Bulldogs with 13 points and added four steals.
  • Sterner and junior Sammi White each had 10 points with Sterner grabbing nine boards and White seven.
  • Ishigami had nine points off the bench and junior Lindsay Bednarek finished with eight off the pine.
For the Foes
  • Kate Herlihy led all scorers with a game-high 28 points.
  • Sabrina Araujo added 12 points and Reagan Russo led the Profs with 13 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Profs shot 39.7 percent for the game but torched the nets in the second-half at 51.7 percent.
  • DSU shot 33.9 percent for the game.
