Tough Shooting Afternoon Dooms Men's Basketball in Loss at Scranton

Scranton, PA (November 8, 2025) - The DeSales University men's basketball team shot just 2-for-22 from outside the arc falling at The University of Scranton, 63-50, in the championship game of the Scranton Tip-off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton - 63, DeSales - 50
  • Records: DeSales (1-1 Overall); Scranton (2-0 Overall)
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2021-22 season as the Bulldogs fall to 12-13 in the all-time series with the Royals.
How it Happened
  • After trading baskets to start the game, Scranton started with a 19-2 run to take a 21-4 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game.
  • The Bulldogs responded chipping away at the margin, pulling within six (23-17), with a 13-2 run of their own led by back-to-back three-point plays from seniors Will Meeker and Brendan Boyle and four points from sophomore Emanuel Domingo.
  • Scranton pushed its lead back to double digits and led by 11 at the break.
  • DSU opened the scoring in the second-half to get within single digits but a 7-0 Royal run pushed the margin up to 17 points 5:40 into the second-half and UofS took its largest lead of the game (53-31) with 6:47 left.
  • The Bulldogs scored the final six points of the game to post the final tally. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Jayden Thomas was the lone player in double digits with 13 points, doing most of his damage at the FT line, hitting 8-for-10.
  • Domingo finished with eight points and six rebounds.
For the Foes
  • Sammy Tornabene led all scorers with 18 points.
  • Jon Spatola added 16 points and seven assists.
  • Brendan Carr had 10 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs were just 2-for-22 from deep (9.1 percent).
  • Scranton had a 19-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • DeSales did control the glass, out-rebounding Scranton, 34-24.
