Men's Basketball Second-Half Comeback Falls Short on Late Putback

Center Valley, PA (December 28, 2025) - The DeSales University men's basketball team erased a 20-point second-half deficit to take a one-point lead late but saw its comeback fall short on a last second putback in a 67-66 loss to Baruch College on the first day of the Al Senavitis Memorial Holiday Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Baruch - 67, DeSales - 66
  • Records: DeSales (4-6 Overall); Baruch (5-6 Overall)
  • The loss is the first ever for the Bulldogs in the all-time series as DSU is now 2-1 all-time vs. the Bearcats.
How it Happened
  • DeSales got off to a slow start in this one as the Bearcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead and led 15-2 5:23 into the game.
  • Back-to-back 3's from sophomore Robbie Ruisch cut the margin in half but Baruch slowly rebuilt its lead to double digits before taking a 16-point advantage (33-17) into the halftime locker room.
  • The lead increased to 20 points a few times to start the second-half and for the last time at the 16:19 mark (42-22).
  • Senior Brendan Boyle hit a three that started a 14-4 run cutting the deficit in half (46-36) at the 12:02 mark.
  • It was a seven point margin at the 5:47 mark when senior Ryan Glassmacher hit a 3 and sophomore Jayden Thomas hit two free throws making it a two-point game with 5:09 to go.
  • DSU still trailed by two with 2:19 remaining when Glassmacher hit another 3 to give the Bulldogs a 63-62 lead with 1:42 on the clock.
  • Baruch hit 1-of-2 freebies to tie game but got the offensive rebound on the second miss and cashed in two free throws with 53 ticks left to take a 65-63 lead.
  • Thomas came up clutch, hit a running floater on the next possession and was fouled, canning the freebie to give DeSales a 66-65 lead with 31 seconds left.
  • Neither team called timeout and Baruch's first attempt at reclaiming the lead with 10 seconds left was an airballed three that the Bearcats tracked down.
  • BC came up short on a jumper in the lane with four seconds left but got the offensive board and scored on a short putback with 1.9 seconds left.
  • The Bulldogs quickly inbounded the ball and attempted a 3/4 court heave that came up well short as time expired.
