Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight to Start Season, 16-7, over Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, VA (March 10, 2025) - The DeSales University women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five straight in a win over Virginia Wesleyan University, 16-7, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 16, Virginia Wesleyan - 7
  • Records: DeSales (5-0 overall); Virginia Wesleyan (2-4 overall)
  • The Bulldogs improve to 1-1 all-time vs. the Marlins.
  • This marks the first time in team history DeSales has opened a season with five straight wins and ties the all-time team record for consecutive wins in a season. 
How it Happened
  • DeSales came out hot to start the game as a seven-goal first quarter saw Bulldogs lead 7-0 at the end of the first, that was led by junior Christina DiGuglielmo who had two goals and two assists in the first quarter. 
  • DSU tacked on in the second quarter as they scored five more goals to stretch the lead out to 12-1 heading into the halftime break. 
  • The second half was low scoring compared to the first half as the Marlins outscored the Bulldogs 6-4 but it was not enough to comeback as DSU posted the 16-7 final tally. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • DiGuglielmo led the scoring attack with four goals and four assists. She is now two assists shy (58) for the team record in career assists (60). 
  • Senior Meagan Landers had three goals and one assist. She currently ranks second all-time in program history with 103 goals and 138 points for her career. 
  • Junior Hailey Linebaugh led the Bulldogs with five assists in the win. 
  • Senior Jess Brey had three goals and an assist and totaled four draw controls.
  • Junior Emma Williamson had two goals and one assist while causing four turnovers to lead the defense. 
  • Junior Bridey Lawler scored two goals.
  • Junior Danielle Sieja and sophomore Sophia Campola each scored one goal. 
For the Foes
  • Madison Pfister led the Marlins with three goals in the loss. 
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales out-shot VWU, 31-16, while the Marlins had a 17-13 edge in ground balls.
  • DSU won 18-of-26 draw controls and was 12-of-15 on clears.
