Baseball Drops Fourth Straight, 10-9, at Southwestern (TX)

Georgetown, TX (March 11, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team suffered its fourth straight loss falling to Southwestern University (TX), 10-9, on Tuesday evening.

DeSales took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run from junior Shane Anhalt. After Southwestern scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the bottom of the third, DSU came around and scored four runs in the top of the 4th inning to retake the lead (5-4). Sophomore Jeremy Stranix had an RBI walk and junior John Rorick came up with a two-run single as part of the four-run frame for the Bulldog offense.

DSU would get some insurance in the fifth inning when senior Colin Houck tripled to left center to score junior JT Anderosky. Houck would then score in the next at-bat on a sac-fly from graduate student Travis Kerr to push the DeSales lead up to 7-4. The Pirates answered in the bottom half of the inning as they rallied together four runs to flip the game and take an 8-7 lead through five innings of play.

The Bulldogs tied the game up in the top of the sixth inning on a sac-fly from Houck to score Anderosky, and then in the seventh inning DSU took the lead on a successful double steal that scored Stranix.

Southwestern tied the game in the ninth inning on a wild pitch which was then followed up by an RBI single to give the Pirates the win.

Anhalt finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, Houck and Rorick each had two hits and two RBIs while scoring one run. First-year Joe Ficoturo pitched three strong innings allowing just one run and striking out four. Senior Frank Parrotti took the loss pitching one inning allowing two runs on three hits.

DSU is right back at it tomorrow when they travel to Schreiner University with first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
